The Area-Based Coordination (ABC) platform convened its monthly coordination meeting with strong participation from leading humanitarian actors working across the Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn (SSC) regions. The meeting was chaired by Mawliid Abdirahman, representing Daryeel Relief Development (DRD) and serving as the Deputy Chair of the coordination body. His leadership helped guide a focused and constructive discussion aimed at improving the overall effectiveness of humanitarian response in the region. Representatives from ALIGHT, CARE, OXFAM, NORDIC, DRD, and HOSPO joined the session, reflecting the collaborative spirit that defines the ABC platform.
The meeting began with partners sharing detailed updates on the current humanitarian situation across the SSC regions. Agencies provided an overview of new emergency incidents, displacement movements, and the challenges affecting the delivery of essential services. Participants discussed access limitations, logistical constraints, and the growing needs among communities affected by instability, including displaced families, women, children, and other vulnerable groups. These shared insights helped establish a unified understanding of the evolving context and ensured all actors were aligned on the most urgent priorities.

Partners then presented updates on ongoing operations across key sectors. Each organization outlined the progress of its activities, including healthcare interventions, nutrition services, water and sanitation support, shelter assistance, and food security initiatives. Several agencies highlighted successful interventions already making an impact on the ground, while also pointing out areas where additional resources or coordination efforts are needed. This exchange allowed partners to identify overlapping needs, avoid duplication of efforts, and build stronger synergies across programs.
A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to strengthening coordination and enhancing inter-agency collaboration. Participants emphasized the importance of consistent information sharing, especially during sudden-onset emergencies, to ensure timely and efficient decision-making. There was a collective agreement on the need for better synchronization of field activities so communities receive comprehensive, complementary services instead of fragmented support. The discussion reaffirmed the value of the ABC platform as a central hub for coordination, communication, and joint planning.

Throughout the meeting, participants repeatedly stressed the importance of ensuring that interventions remain accountable and responsive to community needs. Agencies agreed on the importance of working closely with community leaders, local structures, and feedback mechanisms to ensure that programs are relevant and grounded in the realities faced by local households. The commitment to community-driven, needs-based programming remains a cornerstone of humanitarian operations in the SSC regions.
Looking Ahead
The meeting concluded with partners reaffirming their dedication to strengthening collaboration through the ABC platform. All agencies committed to continuing their coordinated efforts, improving communication channels, and collectively addressing the most pressing humanitarian needs across the Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn regions. The next monthly meeting will build on these discussions, further enhancing the efficiency, reach, and impact of humanitarian work in the area.
